Patricia Fleming (Pat), has over thirty-five years’ experience in accounting and tax matters concerning individuals, partnerships, limited liability companies and corporations. She has extensive experience in the areas of corporate and business dissolution, sales and purchases of partnership interests, real estate exchanges and taxation, long-term healthcare, property tax issues, sales and payroll tax issues, estate planning, tax-exempt entities, year-end business tax planning, and individual tax planning.  Pat also has extensive experience dealing with the particular tax situations that can arise with S corporations.  

Prior to entering public accounting in 1986, Ms. Fleming spent eight years with a large long-term health-care organization. She has had experience in many administrative and accounting functions relating to health care management, including cash management, budgeting, ancillary health care services, and financing/construction of new health care facilities. 

Pat began her tax career in 1986 in the Hickory office of Deloitte & Touche. In 1989, she joined a local CPA firm and spent almost 21 years serving clients as Tax Manager and Senior Tax Manager. In 2011, taking a hiatus from public accounting, Pat returned to the long-term healthcare field, serving five years in the Finance department of a local healthcare management company as Corporate Tax Director, also functioning in the capacity of Controller. Realizing that she missed the challenges of public accounting, Pat joined with Johnny Davidson in 2016 to create the firm, Johnny W. Davidson, Jr. & Associates, CPAs, PLLC.

Pat additionally holds the certification of Chartered Global Management Accountant, a designation authorized by the AICPA (American Institute of Certified Public Accountants). She is a graduate of Catawba Valley Community College and served for several years as a member of the CVCC Accounting Curriculum Advisory Committee. Pat is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the North Carolina Association of Certified Public Accountants. Also a former member of the Kiwanis Club of Western Catawba County, she is a Past President and past Kiwanian of the Year. While involved with Kiwanis, Pat coordinated the Terrific Kids Program for the Western Catawba County Club for eight years. She also served as Treasurer for a local non-profit organization for several years.

Pat has two daughters and four grandchildren and resides in Hickory. Her personal interests include music of all kinds and classical piano. Pat is an avid reader and book collector.


Kay Pennell Herman, CPA

Kay has many years of experience in serving the public accounting needs of the Catawba Valley area. She has a broad range of experience in tax, accounting and management advisory services. Kay is a 1978 graduate of Appalachian State University with a Bachelor of Technology degree and Catawba Valley Community College with an Associate degree in Accounting. She has spent the majority of her career assisting individuals and small businesses with their tax and accounting solutions. 

Kay’s public accounting career began in 1978 with a local accounting firm. In 1991 she was a founding partner in the firm of Bowman, Pegg, Herman & Starr, CPAs. In 2002,  she formed Kay P. Herman, CPA, PA. During her career, she has served clients in a variety of tax and accounting matters concerning individuals, partnerships, limited liability companies, and corporations. She has experience in corporate and business formation and dissolution, sales of partnership interests, real estate exchanges and taxation, property tax issues, sales, and payroll tax issues, estate planning, year-end business, and individual tax planning. 

Kay is a member of the North Carolina Association of Certified Public Accountants and the AICPA (American Institute of Certified Public Accountants). She served for several years as a member of the Catawba Valley Community College Accounting Curriculum Advisory Committee. Kay supports the Women’s Resource Center and the Catawba County Humane Society, previously the Western Piedmont Humane Society. She was formerly active in the Humane Society as Secretary and Treasurer for many years. She received a longtime volunteer award and has served on the Board of Directors Finance Advisory Committee. She is a member of Mt. Pisgah Lutheran Church.
